Who can claim?

As you are probably aware you can claim tax relief on certain medical expenses.

As with all credits, you have four years to make a claim. Therefore, you can go back as far as 2006 and make a claim for unclaimed medical expenses. On submission of the Form Med 1, Revenue do not need receipts as proof however, you must hold on to all relevant receipts for a 6-year period as Revenue do random checks.

How much can be claimed?

Up to 2008 relief could be claimed on expenses at 41%. However, the Budget in 2009 reduced this to 20%. Most medical expenses can be claimed with the exception of routine dental or ophthalmic treatment.
